Shielded by mountains to the north from the lights of Bar Harbor and Jackson Lab, the sky on this night was not any better than that on Thompson Island at the start of the Acadia All American Road. The site has an excellent southern horizon, where the heart of the Milky Way is visible in the summer and fall, as shown in Tyler Nordgren's photo below.
